In partnership with Mathematica, and with the support of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and the Texas Education Research Center (ERC), PSC recently completed its first statewide value-added earnings study in Texas.
In this study, we examine the value-added earnings outcomes of nearly one million students who enrolled in 86 public institutions in Texas from 2008-09 through 2018-19 and who sought bachelor’s degrees, associate’s degrees, or certificates. We examine the outcomes of three types of entering cohorts in an institution in a given academic year: institutional cohorts, programmatic cohorts, and demographic cohorts. We study ~8,500 total cohorts across these three types.
Texas’ exceptionally high-quality data system linking students from high school through postsecondary education and the workforce made it a logical partner to pilot PSC’s methodology. PSC is grateful to THECB and the ERC for granting us access to Texas’ state longitudinal data system.
